Description

This is a medium-sized brownish woodpecker with a short dark bill. Male has a red patch under the eye. It’s about 25 cm in length. And it has a black barrred appearance due to overall dark brown color with dark bands on the feather of the wing and tail.

Mainly forages in pairs. Feeds on ants and termites. Generally found in the plain lands and lower hills.
